Physical Education Philosophy:

Physical Education is an important part of the total educational program. 

Students participate in physical activities that allow them to develop an understanding of the physical abilities of themselves and others. Students become aware of the social, spiritual, mental and emotional benefits of physical activity through participation. 

            The total development of students is the goal of the educational system.  Physical Education is a vital part in reaching this goal.  A variety of activities are incorporated into the physical education program.  Activities vary from creative movement to lifetime sports. 

            All students have the need and right to enjoy the benefits of physical activity.  Students will benefit through a creative and well-rounded physical education program.


Learning Objectives:

Health & Skill Related Fitness

·      Use the concepts of health-related and skill-related fitness to connect the benefits each offers to the development of total fitness.

Wellness

·      Identify a variety of specific activities designed to reduce and manage stress (e.g., aerobics, Pilates, deep breathing, muscle relaxation).

Fitness Principles (Weight Training)

·      Identify exercise principles of overload, progression, and specificity and how they relate to exercise.

Personal/Social Responsibilities

·      Demonstrate the ability to solve problems by analyzing causes and potential solutions in a physical activity setting.

Prevention

·      Investigate the safe and unsafe practices of using fitness equipment.

Movement Concepts

·      Identify critical elements to improve performance in selected skills (e.g., throw various objects)

Skill Techniques

·      Analyze selected skills and correct errors to improve skill technique.

Individual, Dual and Team Sports

·      Explain sport history.

·      Demonstrate an increased level of competence in skill techniques, scoring, and safety practices in a variety of individual, dual and team sports.


Required Dress:

·      Athletic shoes

·      Athletic socks

·      Athletic shorts or sweats

·      T-shirt (with sleeves)

Softball, Basketball, Weight Training, Badminton, Fitness, Team Building, Ultimate Frisbee, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball
