I think that in order to find a proper balance between feeling and logic, you must start by incorporating both into your speech. Feelings are the building blocks to creating values. Incorporating feelings into a speech can help the audience determine what they deem either right or wrong. Not only can it urge the audience to form some sort of bias, but it can also help them relate to the topic at hand. Logic, on the other hand, helps people slow down and use these feelings to determine what the wise decision is. For example, taking what the speaker says with a grain of salt uses both feelings and logic. Our feelings bring the things that matter most to us to our attention, and logic allows us to assess whether or not our feelings and reactions are appropriate to the cause. Reading the audience can help to figure out if you’ve crossed the line. If the audience seems to be losing focus, you may have crossed the line and will need to adjust your levels of feelings and logic. In summary, pairing each emotional statement with an opportunity for a logical one can help to create balance between the two, and reading the audience can help to avoid crossing the line.
