I love to watch movies and tv series, so I know I have seen multiple where the author played with the form. The first example that comes to my mind when the change in form violated my expectations is "The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window." This mysterious tv series caught me so off guard by the end, so I would definitely say the play on form was successful. The attempt worked for me because of the episodes that led to the ending. The build up of climax and characters that I thought were the murderer had me entirely blindsided to the actual murderer. As the text mentioned, the twist was definitely creative despite it being quite scary.
