Was this state part of the Union or Confederacy during the Civil War? Union / Confederacy / Border State (explain briefly if it was complicated).
Did this state officially secede from the Union? If yes, when? (Month/Day/Year) or "Did not secede."
Was slavery legal in this state during the Civil War? Yes / No

🔵 Part 2: Key Events and Places

Question Student Task
Name 2–3 major battles, events, or military actions that took place in or near this state. List name + one-sentence summary of each.
Choose 1 key battle and describe what happened. 3-5 sentence summary: date, leaders, outcome, why it mattered.
Identify one important city or location in the state during the war. (City name + its importance, e.g., capital, supply depot, battlefield site.)

Bonus: Find a story of a "regular citizen" from your state who made an impact. Write a quick 3-5 sentence summary of their story

How did the people of your state feel about the war? (Explain if opinion was divided — many border states were!)
