For your presentation, you are going to answer 4 questions for the class. At the end of your presentation, you are going to have a 1 sentence "Main Idea" that you think is the most important thing for the class to remember about your state's involvement in the Civil War. 

Students will keep a running Main Idea Worksheet. The class will write down each of their classmates' main ideas. There will then be an open note quiz that will be based on the presentation Main Ideas. 

Questions to Answer.

  1. How involved was your state in the Civil War?
  2. What else was happening in the state as the War was fought?
  3. What was the impact of the War on your state?
  4. What is something you learned that surprised you?

8th Grade U.S. History Presentation Rubric (100 points total)

Category Points Description
Answers All 4 Questions Clearly 40 pts Each question is answered with accurate and relevant historical detail (10 pts per question).
Main Idea Sentence 20 pts Concludes with a thoughtful, clear, and accurate one-sentence summary of the presentation's main idea.
Presentation Clarity 20 pts Speaks clearly and at a good pace; audience can easily understand the content.
Engagement & Preparation 20 pts Shows preparation, stays on topic, and engages the audience (e.g., makes eye contact, uses notes but doesn’t read directly).
