Role Model

Role Model

Recently in my life my brother introduced me to the Spilt Milk Podcast, a podcast hosted by a dad and his very young son. Then I stumbled across this podcast again and fell in love with it. That is why my speech craft role model is the dad from the podcast. I do not know his name, but that is not important. The podcast is very much a conversational form of public speaking. I find it very awesome to see him have actual things that he wants to talk about with his son, but inevitably when his son got sidetracked he still listened intently and followed up with questions. The podcast does have an audience, but the dad's audience is truly only his son. All of the content that is prepared is for his son. I find that the dad wants to see how his son, his audience, reacts and interacts with the ideas he talks about. The podcast is an extemporaneous public speech. It does not always closely follow the points or notes that have been prepared, but in this context it is fine. In some circumstances based on the audience or son's reaction the podcast becomes an impromptu  speech. Overall I find it very enjoyable because of the flexibility of it and that is why the dad is my speech craft role model.

I really like how you said that the father's only audience is his son and that he's focused completely on what his son has to say rather than taking to a screen as if it is a real person. I agree, Joe, good stuff👍

I love that you were able to find this podcast that you enjoy and are able to learn and take tips from. I would agree with you that podcasts are enjoyable to listen to, but only if done right. Based on the way you described this podcast and the structure of it, it is definitely a podcast that has been done right because of the quality elements of public speaking found within it. It also seems to be a podcast that can be examined for good tips and tricks when talking about public speaking. I myself wouldn't have known about this podcast, but do know of other podcasts that are great to listen to and present themselves well through their confidence in their speech.
