I think that PowerPoints have their proper place in speeches. However, we are yet to find it. PowerPoints are great for helping people connect ideas from the speech to visuals. PowerPoints are not great at explanations of ideas. For very complex speech topic or small audiences where the details are important a PowerPoint is not needed so oversimplification can be avoided. However, for large audiences or a speech where every detail is not emphasized a PowerPoint is a helpful tool to draw attention to the main focus of the speech.

I agree that larger audiences could benefit from a power point more than smaller ones due to the audience size, and I like how you said that Power Points have their place, but we haven't found that place yet.

I really like the way you described how power points should be used. I agree completely with you that in its correct time and spot, PowerPoints can be useful, but if done incorrectly it becomes more of a distraction. Great job!

This is most likely what I was trying to accomplish with my own response. The more one knows their audience, the better discretion they can use in how their audience adapts.

I like the differentiation that you pointed out in your response. I agree with you that a PowerPoint could be misleading when a speech concerning heavy, complex topics is provided. However, I also think that this is heavily dependent on the speaker. Should a speaker be able to use PowerPoint on a complex topic, with use of minimal information on the screen, and still make a strong defense or case for their speech, I believe it is permitted.
I see this apply mainly at church. The use of helpful pictures, fill in the blank notes, and other useful PowerPoint slides are very helpful to better grasp the material of a message, and, if given by a well spoken Pastor who knows the content and context, it can be engaging and more applicable than if there were no slides.

I agree with the point you made when mentioning that oversimplifications can be avoided by a possibility of having a PowerPoint.
