One of the biggest examples of violating audience expectation was in avengers infinity war when the heroes lost and a ton of people died going from a victory to a horrible tragedy. The attempt was successful, it was a great movie.

I didn't think of that one but I definitely agree that it was a great shift in form and from what the audience would expect.

I agree, this movie was great. I think in this case, going off form and letting the unexpected happen was good for fans. It allowed them to have a different experience which made them want to come back for the next movie. Spot on Grayson.

This was a really good example! No one expected the heroes to lose so many people. While watching the movie, I think the most unexpected part was making the heroes suffer so much!

This is a great example. I remember watching this movie and being completely caught off guard by the ending.

I remember watching that for the first time, and hearing Thanos say "you should've gone for the head" and then snapping his fingers.
