Opportunity Cost for CAFE

While watching this video although he made some good points, a few red flags stood out to me. The first red flag was that CAFE is supposed to make cars cheaper, but by taking away some of the main features that make people want to buy them. When this regulation was set into motion the opportunity cost for many people would be the reliability and safety of cars. Although this will be beneficial to society by making it easier to get a car, and therefore travel to a job. This will also mean more accidents and more deadly injuries when getting in an accident. Overall, he made a lot of good points in this video about the cost of importation and etc, all while calling out the opportunity cost of this law.

Excellent! I would have agree with you - if standards for vehicles force all manufacturers to have features that make them safer and more fuel efficient, then if we repealed these standards, more cars could be created that are less safe and less fuel efficient. However, while I am wealthy enough to afford the current standards, others in the states may not be. Now that these standards are removed, manufacturers may be able to make more affordable cars for those who care about affordability more than safety or fuel efficiency. Good analysis!
