On behalf of businesses like ice cream shops and ice cream truck drivers, I petition that shade and cool air can no longer be free. Shade and breezes give people a way to cool down without buying anything. Breezes work all the time especially in Indiana, don’t cost money, and don’t need any effort. When people can just stand under a tree or feel a cool wind, they don’t feel like buying ice cream. That hurts businesses that depend on people being hot. First, shade should be limited, and hanging out under trees for too long should not be allowed. Second, strong winds should be controlled so people don’t get free cooling from nature. Finally, people should have to deal with more heat so they actually need to buy ice cream to cool off. If people can stay comfortable for free, the economy doesn’t work properly. Cooling off should come from buying products, not just being outdoors.
