AMA Restrictions

The point of free markets is to allow consumers to determine quality and price of goods and services, but the US has found many ways to work around that system since its founding. The AMA serves as a prime example of this. By introducing the government to the free medical market, standards have been raised in a way that eliminates all other competition. This, in turn, has created a legal monopoly on the medical industry that only benefits the AMA. While urban areas receive better quality medical care, only the richest of Americans can afford it, and rural areas have limited access to any sort of medical care at all. While the government has its role in the economy, it often crosses lines that increase central power and benefit large corporations at the cost of US citizens, as can be seen in the medical standards created by AMA lobbyists.

Great Job Abby. I love how you zoomed out from this instance with the AMA, to look at this situation as a whole. You did a good job explaining that the government intervening too much impedes upon our rights and everyday actions as US citizens.
