The paradox of the household income:
1) The economic growth barely changed because even though poverty with married couples is better, the overall poverty for single mothers is now double what it used to be.
2) No. The number for the poverty in the marriage mart can be deceiving.
3) It's hard to measure because family structure isn't the only thing that effects the poverty rate.
Do the rich get all the gains?
1) We can be sure we are following the same people by looking at tax data.
2) Panel data isn't more frequently used because even if it shows that the poor have earned a higher percentage that the rich, rich lives still look way better compared to the poor.
Lets party like it's 1973!
1) No, because then I would not get all the goods and services I can have now, like the iphone.
2) The poorest person might want to live in the 1970s because it looks like the prices are better than they are now. I'm not sure if many people would or wouldn't. If they did, they wouldn't enjoy a lot of the technology we have now.
3) Probably in the technology area. It's hard to measure prices because technology today offers so many more improvements.
4) Something that we don't use as much anymore could be said to have gone down in quality. For example, a roller skating rink isn't as popular as it would have been back then. But mostly I think this problem is rare.
5) I think people in the past would love to be people today. We have so much more goods and services to go around.
