While tariffs bring more protection for job security, they also make items made way more expensive. Not only do tariffs make items more expensive, they make them more scarce for people in these countries that have tariffs for other countries. All in all, tariffs are not as great as you may think.
Those who support tariffs say that these tariffs give job security, and allow themselves to get resources more independently. However, they miss the idea of comparative advantage, where everybody benefits from certain countries specializing in resources.
