Chapter 3 Response

In my opinion, speeches that come from the heart will always sound better than a logical speech with no emotions. Although, there are some speeches that have a perfect balance between logic and emotions. I believe that when giving a speech, you need to talk about something you're passionate about and support your points with trustworthy information. I believe that a perfect example of having balance in a speech would be MLK's, "I have a Dream" speech. His speech was something he was passionate about and was also logical because of the things he had experienced in his past. When giving a speech, you don't want to be too emotional and end up forgetting about your topic, nor do you want to be too logical and boring. To find the perfect balance, you should talk calmly and passionately. You may perhaps raise your voice to get the crowd riled up sometimes but be sure to keep your composure and stay focused.

I do agree that it is important to balance out both emotions and logic in speeches showing the audience your true emotions and give strong logical reasoning to support your emotions which may have an impact on the audience.

I agree that speaking passionately about a topic is much more interesting for an audience than a strictly logical one. I also thought your example of MLK’s speech was a good example of a passionate speaker that kept his audience engaged and involved.

Your example of MLK was very insightful. I had not thought of any speaker in specific, but definitely agree that he found a great balance. Since MLK’s logic was based on past experiences it was trustworthy, so great point!
