Bias is not always bad and it is unavoidable. Whether you concously think about it or not you have a viewpoint on a subject that is your own. This can be avoided more in speech by providing perspective from both sides of an arguement which the text refers to. In this you may not avoid bias but you hide whatever bias you may have. Bias is not always a negitive though when you are doing some type of persuasion whether in a speech or paper your bias needs to be not egregious and obvious but subtle and let the audience know what you think.
