To PowerPoint or Not to PowerPoint?

To PowerPoint or Not to PowerPoint?

It is my belief that the use of PowerPoint or google slides is more useful than it is confusing or misleading. Given that a speaker is well prepared, has researched the topic they are speaking on thoroughly, and uses proper presentation aids to best grasp the attention of the given audience, a PowerPoint can even be the most beneficial.

As an audience member in this age of postmodernism and the up and coming meta-modernism eras, technology and the presentation of media in the world has developed a society with short attention spans and a sort of dependence on visual or audible stimuli in order for our minds to remain engaged and take away any key concepts.

It is not that the little information that may be on a PowerPoint is misleading, or does not give enough context, rather, it is an essential tool in this age to keep a focused audience. Use of bullet points, simple data charts, and pictures or memes can engage the audience and grasp their attention so that they will be more apt to receive the message the speaker is trying to convey. Though simple and minimal, PowerPoint should be seen as a very helpful tool to be used to a great advantage for any speaker so that audiences are receptive of information without zoning out or becoming bored.

I could not agree more with your statement that the audience "will be more apt to receive the message". This is worded so well, and is proven in my own experiences as an audience member during the rest of our classmates speeches.

I definitely think a slideshow can be helpful in focusing the audience, especially with our short attention spans. It can help others know what is going on in a speech if they accidentally zone out.

I agree with everything you said and I feel like it helps the audience to have something to look at so they stay focused.
