My position on "The Great PowerPoint Debate" is that overall PowerPoints are useful. It is not because the audience expects slides that I think a speaker should use them, but why not use slides when they help the audience engage and retain the information. It would almost be impossible to undo the damage that our society has from such quick videos of visual and auditory stimuli, so using slides is one way to adapt to the short attention-spanned audience. From personal experience, statistics are processed as more staggering when I can see them written out on a screen or even in some type of graph. Then, because I have processed the information more adequately I am more likely to be invested and ask questions to further my and the audience's knowledge. Contrarily, if there were not slides and I did not retain the information, then I would not be able to think of or have curiosity led questions.
