I think that establishing goodwill toward your audience is extremely important. I think that this can be done by explaining why this topic is important/relevant to you, and then why this topic is important/relevant to your audience. This shows the audience that it is not something that you take lightly, but is something that you truly believe in, and then they will take you more seriously.

I definitely agree with this! Being able to explain why they should care, and why you genuinely want them to understand will allow for the audience to want to listen more closely.

I also agree that when the audience can tell you are passionate about the topic, they'll listen more intently. I loved how you talked about the relevance of the topic.

I agree that when the speaker explains why the topic is important to them, it shows that they care about the audience. I tend to be more drawn in when a speaker mentions why they are passionate about the topic they chose.
