Chapter 4

The author finds the potentially incoming minimum wage increase and the outcomes affected rent very ironic. The author finds this really ironic because the whole point of Zohran Mamdani's price control is to help the lower class but in the end it is hurting the lower class and creating a bigger margin between the lower and middle class. One of the biggest examples of this can be seen in the minimum wage increase starting at 16.50 but Zohran only wants to increase this from there. This does not help but discourages companies from even giving jobs to the less skilled people so instead of having a job that does not pay much the lower class people don't even get a job. At the same time the mayor wants to increase rent control to keep the prices cheaper for the lower class but as a result the building owner have to rent out for so cheap that they can't afford to keep the building anymore. This causes the owners to sell the buildings leaving no one with a place to stay and money in their pocket.

I like how you said both the owners and the buyers in the rent scenario both end up hurting more in the long run and less money than if the government did not restrict it. No one benefits.

Precisely so. He says he wants to help the people, but then makes it more difficult for the people to get paid and live under a roof. Great job Grayson!

I like how you represented the fact that its "supposed to help" the lower classes, but ends up making worse for them and for the upper classes as well.
