Quiz - Proverb Devo for Final Exam Use
Objective: Write a devotional from a Proverb (counts as a quiz grade).
Process:
DAY ONE. (APRIL 29)
1. Review your Proverbs worksheets and select a Proverb/passage that you would like to expand into a devotional.
2. Create a Google Doc titled "Devo_ProverbsFINAL_(lastname-firstname) AND share it with pstrahm@bcsstudent.org
3. Page 1 of Google Doc: Research other Biblical passages that align with your Proverb (think New Testament teaching from Jesus, Paul, James, etc) that you could include in your devotional. List passages and either the full text OR a summary of why this align with your chosen passage.
4. Page 1 (and 2?) of Google Doc: Develop an outline with some details to help you in preparation for writing your devotional. The more detailed your outline, the easier it will be to write.
Proverb Devo Requirements (A basic outline structure to utilize)
A. Introduction: brief story, question, stat, attention grabber. Make the reader want to read you devo. (50-100 words)
B. Transition: Examples: “In our passage today…” “In the book of Proverbs…”. "This leads me to consider..." (1-2 sentences)
C. Teaching: Explain passage and theme that relates to your intro. (100-200 words)
D. Gospel Connection: How does this relate to trusting in Jesus as your Savior and submitting to His Kingdom? (100-200 words)
E. Key Statement: “Here’s what you must understand (one big idea)”. (1-3 sentences)
F. Application: PERSONALIZE and invite reader to know what to do as a result of this truth. How will they live differently? (100-200 words)
G. Prayer (2-3 sentences)
5. DAY TWO (APRIL 30) - Page 2 (or 3?) of Doc: Write your Proverbs Devo utilizing your outline above. Feel free to write it with those headings included in the devo if desired. All part (A-G) of the outline above must be included for the possibility of full credit on your Proverb.
6. Day THREE and FOUR (May 6, 8, in class) - edit and improve your initial draft.
Goal: 450-600 words outside of quoted Biblical texts.
DUE: Wednesday, May 13 by end of class. These assignments will be used during our final exam as you will read your peers' devos and fill out forms based on their content.
