Chapter 4 Response

  1. I landed on a topic for the opinion speech by finding something that was a relevant topic and that I had interest in (college). Then I built up on that and decided to pick something that had a little controversy to it to maintain listeners's focus and was relevant to the audience.
  2. To pick topics for future events I will most likely brainstorm by thinking of something that I have a lot of interest in. I will then build on that and develop the topic into something that intersects other people's opinions and interests. I will probably start with a broad idea about something that I know will spark my friends' interests and then I will narrow it in to focus on something specific about that topic.

I am so excited to hear about this! I love that you found something with some controversy as well!

Great Job! Your speech was very good and this explains well how you picked it. Finding a topic you have interest in for your speech is definitely important to how your speech will go. Keep up the good work!

I think that picking something with a little bit of controversy is a good tactic for developing a speech topic. Starting with something that you know the class will be interested in is also a good idea, and I will likely do the same when picking a topic for future presentations.
