Chapter 6 Response

Bias is a tough controversial topic. I think it is situational depending on the type of speech a person is giving. If a person is giving a persuasive speech it is not bad to be biased because the topic has most likely affected the speaker personally. Now for informational speeches I think it should be avoided as much as possible. One way to ensure that you do not give a biased information speech is to choose a topic that you do not know much about, so in your research you are learning about both sides or perspectives of that specific topic. Then, even if you do feel pulled to a certain outlook after researching you can and should just lay out the facts that you learned regarding both perspectives. All in all, bias in itself is sometimes avoidable and that does not make it bad; what matters is a persons intention and truthfulness about their bias.

This was a very well-written response! I liked how you said that bias can be good for some speeches and bad for others. Good job, Lily!
