Chapter 8 Response

To establish goodwill, or community, in my next speech, I will explain to my audience why the topic is important to me, but also why it can be important for them too. This not only gives them an area to connect to, but it also engages them in the topic. When a speaker establishes a connection with their audience, it shows that they truly care about the topic. People are much more likely to listen when they believe that the speaker cares and has their best interest in mind, so in my next speech I will be sure to draw the audience in and establish goodwill by telling them why the subject matters to not just me, but them as well.

I love your plan for establishing goodwill. I also love that you mentioned that a speech is much more interesting and convincing when the speaker truly cares about the topic. Wonderful job!

I totally agree. It's a lot easier to connect with your audience when they have a good idea of what your topic is and how they can relate to it themselves.

I really agree with this, I think that those two things are perfect ways to bridge the gap between you and your audience, and to establish common ground!

Personal connection is a great way to establish the bond with the audience and allows for an easier listening experience as a member of the crowd.

I love how you mentioned the audience's perspective and how they would be more intrigued to listen when they can tell the speaker cares.

I love the point you made about how telling the audience why it is important to you, draws them in as well. I agree that, for me personally, when a speaker is passionate about what they are saying, I tend to be more drawn in.
