Chapter 12 Response

Playing with form and genre can be a risky thing, however, I believe that it can create great pieces of art or literature when done right. For example, the book The Family Across the Street by Nicole Trope is a mystery/thriller book. In this book, the author leads the story a certain way and then right at the end it completely switches. She had some chapters that were present and some chapters that took place in the past. Although she played with the normal form of a book, it created an amazing book that shocks anyone who reads it. I believe that this attempt of playing with form was successful because she crafted the story in a way that the ending made you rethink the whole entire book and you had to keep track of the timeline.

This book sounds amazing! I love it when authors completely twist the plot right before the end; it just makes the book so much more interesting and so fun to read.

Mystery and Thriller books always do a great job at playing with form and surprising readers. I totally agree with your example!
