Objective: Create a resource that helps state how to have effective and meaningful conversations with those who do not have a similar viewpoint on a specific subject.

Instructions

1. Utilizing your Stalemate book and notes, create a list of key terms and steps that are helpful in understanding others and having healthy dialogue with the goal of future gospel conversations.  You will turn in this prep work as part of your assignment and it should have a minimum of 10 key terms/steps. (10% of your assignment grade)

For example: bricolage, disinhibition, perspective taking, and pre/actual/post conversations.  You will then organize this information into a cohesive paper or presentation.

Additional emphasis:  End the Stalemate utilizes scripture throughout the book.  Be sure to include a few Biblical passages that correlate to your content.

2. Options:

  A. Paper - write a 10-12 paragraph paper that is both informative and practical.

Ask yourself: if someone read this would they understand the context of America and our cancel culture? Would they be able to practically use the information in my paper to have a healthy conversation about a polarizing subject with someone that they disagree strongly with?

The paper should have an introduction and conclusion.

  B. Presentation - create a presentation with 10-12 slides (with enough detail on each slide to help the audience learn and be engaged) that is both informative and practical.  Your presentation should be 7-10 minutes in length.

Ask yourself: if someone heard my presentation would they understand the context of America and our cancel culture? Would they be able to practically use the information in my presentation to have a healthy conversation about a polarizing subject with someone that they disagree strongly with?

The presentation should have an introduction that gets the audience's attention (personal story, attention grabbing statistic, probing question, etc) while still covering primary terms and practical application for today.  Be creative and any unique ideas can be discussed with Mr. Strahm.

You will have time in class on Thurs, Fri, and Monday.  It is due (printed) at end of class on Monday.

This is worth approx 20% of your quarter grade.
